Wayne F. Yakes, MD, FSIR, FCIRSE received his medical degree in 1979 from Creighton University School of Medicine in Omaha, Nebraska. A military career took him to Fitzsimons Army Medical Center in Colorado where he completed his internship and residency in Diagnostic Radiology. In 1983, Dr. Yak-es moved to Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C. where he completed his fellowship in Neuroradiology, Cardiovascular Radiology, and Interventional Radiology. Returning to Colorado in 1984, Dr. Yakes served variously as Chief of the Neuroradiology and Interventional Neuroradiology, Cardiovascular and Interventional Radiology and Diagnostic Radiology Service sections at Fitzsimons Army Medical Center. In 1991, Dr. Yakes established the Yakes Vascular Malformation Center at Swe-dish Medical Center in Englewood, Colorado to specialize in the diagnosis and management of vascular anomalies in all anatomic locations and has since made advances in the field of vascular malformation management.
