Dr. Eri Fukaya is a Clinical Associate Professor in the Division of Vascular Surgery at the Stanford School of Medicine. Dr. Fukaya received her Ph.D. (2009) and M.D. (1999) from Tokyo Women’s Medical University in Japan, where she also completed her Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery training prior to completing Internal Medicine training at Beth Israel Medical Center and Lankenau Medical Center, and Vascular Medicine training at University of Pennsylvania. Her postdoctoral research studies were in the areas of evaluating tissue perfusion and viability, and vascular imaging.
Dr. Fukaya is a Vascular Medicine specialist and has clinical and research interests in chronic venous disease. She started the Stanford Vascular and Vein Clinic and treats advanced venous disease patients at the Advanced Wound Care Center. She is also the site director for the national FMD Registry. She serves as the fellowship director for the Stanford Vascular Medicine Fellowship Program and maintains an active clinical and didactic teaching role for a multidisciplinary group of residents and fellows at Stanford.
Her research includes understanding the genetic underpinnings and pathophysiology of chronic venous disease, evaluating the epidemiology and diagnostic approaches to venous leg ulcers, working with societal groups to increase vascular disease awareness and access to care, and incorporating clinical interventions to utilize mobile health with information technology.
