Stavros K. Kakkos MD, MSc, PhD, RVT, is Professor of Vascular Surgery and Chairman of the Department of Vascular Surgery of Patras Medical School, Patras, Greece. He received his medical degree from the University of Patras Medical School, and had postgraduate clinical and research training in Patras, Imperial College London and at the Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, Michigan. He has been on the staff of Patras University for 15 years, and his clinical and research interests include, amongst others, thrombosis, and venous, aneurysm and peripheral arterial disease. Professor Kakkos sits on the Editorial Board of a number of journals, including the European Journal of Vascular and Endovascular Surgery (Section Editor for venous and lymphatic disease, vascular access), Cochrane Library (sign off Editor), and Frontiers in Surgery (Specialty Chief Editor for Vascular Surgery section). He has authored over 350 book chapters and articles, including several IUA and ESVS clinical practice guidelines on thrombosis and venous disease.
