Aatira Vijay, PhD, is a Postdoctoral fellow at Dr. Farouc Jaffer's lab in Cardiovascular Research Center, Massachusetts General Hospital & Harvard Medical School, Boston, MA.
Her research is focused to understand in vivo mechanisms of deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and its long-term sequelae- post-thrombotic syndrome (PTS) by developing approaches to image in vivo inflammation and thrombogenesis in murine models of DVT. She is using a multistep approach for a) prevention of recurrent DVT in high risk patients and b) if formed, then reducing the risk of PTS by reducing vein wall injury. Her current findings are particularly interesting for high-risk DVT patients going through catheter directed thrombectomy with adjunct DEX therapy (ongoing DEXTERITY trials).
